At first I was skeptical. I called and placed my order and then heard nothing from them. After a week I called to say I needed something from them to ensure I had placed an order and paid for it. A week and a few more phone calls later I finally got something as proof of purchase in an e-mail. It takes 5-6 weeks to have it made, but they tell you that up front. So I waited five more weeks. It arrived two days ago.
The holster is absolutely everything it is advertised to be, and really is everything the Galco is not. The leather is thick, wide, heavy duty and smells of leather when you open the box. Oh yeah, no assembly required, and it is totally adjustable. The craftsmanship is wonderful and very heavy duty. The whole thing is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship that is totally functional and will last “fo-evah”. I highly recommend the holster and I would buy it again with no hesitation.

My son and I went shopping for a shoulder holster rig, after having seen one during a Texas 2016 open-carry forum. We were originally looking for the Galco, but after having viewed some of the comparison videos it became quite evident there was something better, much better than the Galco. Reading through some forum posts, it was learned these fantastic hand-crafted holsters, portrayed in the videos, are handmade in the U.S.A. by master leather craftsman, Rudy Lozano, owner of Black Hills Leather Company of Laredo, Texas. I located the website for Black Hills Leather Company and after perusing all of their products, my son and I decided on the BH7D Double Shoulder Rig with horizontal Smooth Leather Lined holster and double magazine pouch. Both of which have the snap and hammer straps with all brass hardware. Our rig was made for the 1911 with 5 inch barrel. We were concerned how the holster would work with an ambidextrous safety. We emailed some pictures to Rudy, and as it turned out it was a non-issue. The pistol fit like a glove.
The rig fit very comfortably, but there were some necessary adjustments required to the holster and pouch in order for them to ride more forward as opposed to too far back under the arms. This wasn’t an issue, as everything can be adjusted to accommodate fit and comfort. This shoulder rig is so well built, I can see it lasting one’s lifetime. Rudy recommends BH Leather Life Protein Lotion to maintain and condition the leather and is available for order on his website.
The quality of the leather is as stated on the website, premium quality full-grain cowhide with no blemishes. We ordered the Russet color and personalized it with engraved initials. The craftsmanship is beyond words, and simply exquisite. Black Hills Leather doesn’t stock holsters, rather they are handcrafted to each order and customers’ expectations should allow for appropriate production time. In today’s fast paced world with everything mass produced and instant everything, it was a breath of fresh air to find Black Hills Leather Company who handcrafts their leather products the old-fashioned way, one at a time by leather master Rudy himself.
My advice to Rudy, is when you ship an order, to please include the USPS or UPS tracking number in the body of the email you send every customer announcing the order has shipped.
I most defiantly will order from Rudy Lozano again.

The craftsmanship is perfection. I bought a new Remington R51 pistol. The pistol came to the market in June,2016 and no one was making holsters for this model. I tried some other sites for custom holsters and they were not making holsters.
I finally found the Black hills Leather Site, from now on they will be my first and only choice.

I received my shoulder holster and I am beyond thrilled at the quality and craftsmanship of Rudy’s work! I am so beyond happy with my purchase, that I really can’t explain my satisfaction with this piece of equipment. I will be using this shoulder holster system for “on duty” daily use as a helicopter pilot for a large law enforcement agency in California. I’m so impressed that I will always recommend Black Hills Leather shoulder holsters to anyone looking for one.
I’ve used several different brands of less expensive and much less quality shoulder holsters and on a daily basis over the years, including different models of Galco and Gould & Goodrich. While those are just “okay” systems, they are far INFERIOR in quality, comfort and craftsmanship when compared to Black Hills Leather. The fasteners, the leather, the heavy duty stitching and the leather thickness is far SUPERIOR to anything else I’ve ever used in the industry. Where the other mentioned shoulder rigs are akin to very thin poor quality leather, my Black Hills rig is like a Major League Baseball carcher’s mit. The comfort of my new shoulder holster is incredible. I was anticipating a break-in period, but nope, it doesn’t need one. It’s perfect.
This shoulder holster was definitely designed to hold up to harsh use and extreme everyday wear and tear. The holster is super comfortable, even for a bulky handgun I like carrying such as my Beretta 92FS. It makes my old Galco leather shoulder rig look and feel like a cheap vinyl toy. I only wish I had discovered Black Hills Leather company years ago. Their holster system is the most comfortable that I’ve ever worn. It beats the Galco “Miami Classic” and even the “jackass” rigs that I used to own. There’s literally no other comparison that comes close with this custom piece of durable, heavy duty and high quality leather from Black Hills Leather company.
I can’t recommend their products enough. You get what you pay for with Black Hills Leather.

After spending literally years searching online as well as sporting goods stores and gun shops for an excellent quality shoulder rig that would be something that would last, function well, and be comfortable, i finally just discovered The Black hills leather company a month ago, and thanks to that absolutely awesome gentleman Rudy Lozano, i’m already wearing a BH7D double shoulder rig that is so comfortable out of the box, i wore it for 16 hours comfortably without any adjustment. The rig came set up perfectly for me just by my following the fit instructions when ordering. This is without a doubt, the best looking, most solid rig i have ever seen, bar none. Every aspect of the workmanship is exquisite, The full grain leather, the stitching, the hardware, (I highly recommend the brass option, it is beautiful with the russet color leather) The boning, edge finishing, done even on the straps, are all finished beautifully. The holster fit is perfect already, without needing any break in work at all. As the others here have said in their reviews, this product truly is the best there is. I cannot recommend choosing this company’s products enough. Even the leather conditioner is the best i’ve tried. I am far more than satisfied with my rig, and i will be definitely purchasing more of the most excellent holsters, belts, and accessories from Black Hills Leather in the future.
